Quantum science is at an exciting junction, uniting as it does the disciplines of physics, chemistry, computer science, materials and, increasingly, engineering, to push forward the boundaries of quantum technology. The Imperial Centre for Quantum Science, Engineering and Technology (QuEST) brings together the complementary expertise of world-leading engineers and scientists who share an excitement for the potential of the quantum domain. Along with our industry partners and external stakeholders, we translate discoveries in quantum science into transformative quantum technologies.

The purpose of QuEST is to coordinate and develop quantum activity across the university, particularly on our three strategic research areas, and circulate relevant news, opportunities and seminars for staff and students.

Materials for Quantum Technologies

Like all technologies, new quantum devices rely critically upon materials, both at the heart of the quantum system and also in the surrounding infrastructure required to meet the often demanding environmental requirements.

A quantum internet is envisioned as a general, scalable network that enables two or more quantum devices to share entanglement. This will enable secure communication, enhanced precision timing, scalable quantum computing and distributed sensing.

Applications of Quantum Computing

Quantum computers have the potential to revolutionise heavy information processing in science and industry. During the last decade, great strides have been made in the design and manufacture of quantum hardware allowing the first experimental demonstrations of quantum advantage.
