This document was initially developed with the purpose of helping operators optimise their response to the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing knowledge and experience from a wide range of organisations globally. As the pandemic situation continues to evolve and large parts of the world have reverted to pre-pandemic life with few restrictions, the overall purpose of this report has shifted and will now also provide a general update on select research topics to support wider learning and information sharing, as well as content related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the Project

Metro Operators are the entities that deliver metro services to the customers who in turn comprise the residents, workforce, and overall human capital of modern cities. Their performance impacts on quality of life, access to jobs, and the competitiveness of cities, if not countries. The core objective of the research is to identify and document what makes metros successful, particularly from the Operator’s point of view, by telling the “Operator’s Story”.

This study looks at how bus priority schemes are identified and managed in 14 different cities across Asia, Australia, Europe and North America – using data from the International Bus Benchmarking Group (IBBG).
