The REACT programme is made up of four different research programmes related to COVID-19 in England:

REACT studies

REACT-1

Each month during the pandemic over 150,000 randomly selected people across England were sent a nose/throat swab test to take at home. This study helped us understand how many people were infected with the coronavirus, including those are weren't showing symptoms.

REACT-2

Our REACT-2 study looked at how many people already had COVID-19 and developed antibodies against the virus. A number of different studies assessed the accuracy and usability of different antibody tests. These were then used to enhance our understanding of the spread of COVID-19 across England.

REACT Long COVID

The REACT Long COVID (REACT-LC) study seeks to understand how biological, environmental and social factors determine why some people who are infected with COVID-19 continue to have symptoms for several weeks or months – a condition called Long Covid - while others don’t. The study draws on the 2.4 million REACT participants.
