students

The Careers Advisory Service is putting together a programme of extensive events for the autumn term - including careers fairs & forums, employer skills workshops, seminars on CVs/Applications/Interviews, and more...

Keep an eye out for events in the autumn term 2011 at Imperial...

Careers fairs

Careers Fairs enable you to meet and talk to a number of companies at the same time. You can see many companies individually on campus at presentations and skills workshops throughout term but the only time you get them all together is at a careers fair. They are designed so that you can contrast and compare, discuss and collect information all on the same day. They can help you develop ideas if your career plans are vague or get detailed information on what is on offer if you already know the job you are aiming for. But be warned, it is not just about you finding out information on the companies, they are also looking at you so if you want to give a good first impression it pays to be prepared. Employer Led Skills workshops

During the recruitment cycle the Careers Service arranges recruiter skills sessions that will help you during the application process. Sessions generally last for 2 hours with interactive sessions, role-play and skills tasks to perform.

When do they run? October – February, usually on Wednesdays 13:15 – 15:30. Please check times and dates when booking.

Why attend skills sessions? In a competitive job market, having a good degree is not always enough to land you the job you are after. In fact at least 40% of degree level jobs are now open to graduates of any subject. Emphasising that you have gained some transferable skills is one way to ensure that your application stands out from the crowd.
