Howard Wheater has taken on the role of Director of the new Imperial College Environment Forum.
Howard Wheater has taken on the role of Director of the new Imperial College Environment Forum. The Forum aims to improve the visibility and effectiveness of Imperial's environmental research, including science, engineering, medicine and policy. This involves providing support to initiatives such as the Grantham Institute for Climate Change Research, the development of new networks to connect expertise across the College, and providing a clearer link to current and prospective external research funders. New initiatives planned by the Forum include activities in the areas of Water and Sustainable Production and Resource Efficiency.

Congratulations to Pajaree Kewcharoenwong for winning 1st place in the Enivronment section for the Anglo-Thai Society Education Awards for Excellence 2008. Pajaree will give a brief presentation about her research work and then be presented her award by the HE Ambassador at the Oriental Club on the 12th November. Well done Pajaree!
Welcome to Marta Pellizon Birelli. She is a new post-doc Research Associate working for Dr Chris Cheeseman and Dr Nikolaos Vlasopoulos on a 2-year project "Optimistation of Novel Low Carbon MgO Production Process" - funded by the Technology Strategy Board
Congratulations to Rob Matthews (MSc Student 07-08) for best poster at the Environmental / Hydrology MSc poster event held on 24th September. (As voted for by his peers.) Robs poster was "Can Neem be used to disinfect drinking water? In low-income communities of Nepal"
Welcome to Mr Nicola Bianco. Mr Bianco is a new Research Assistant working with Dr Chris Cheeseman and Dr Nikolaos Vlasopoulos on a 2-year project funded by the Technology Strategy Board The project’s title is “Optimisation of novel low carbon MgO production process”.
Dr Steve Smith organised a one-day programme of expert speakers on the Management of Nutrients from Bioresources as Agricultural Fertilizers at the Royal Academy of Engineering, London 15th October 2008.
"Recycling nutrients in bioresources on land is important and challenging to meet the goals of increasing the recovery of value from organic wastes as agricultural fertiliser products, and reducing landfill disposal, whilst at the same time ensuring that the environment is protected"
Congratulations to Barbara Orellana and her husband on the birth of their daughter Emma at 22.18 on the 18th October. Emma weighed in at 3.6 kg.
