Dr Templeton and Prof Graham contributed to a successful EPSRC Industrial Doctorate Training Centre bid entitled "STREAM - Skills, Technology, Research and Management: An Industrial Doctorate Centre for the UK Water Industry." The multi-million £ bid was led by colleagues at Cranfield University and also involves the University of Sheffield, Newcastle University, and the University of Exeter. The grant will run from 2009-2018 and will fund 50 Engineering Doctorate students spread over the next 5 years and distributed across the 5 universities (i.e. approx 10 students for Imperial College over the 5 years). The students will focus on industrially-linked projects and spend most of their time working directly with industrial partners in the water sector.
PhD student Lizzie Huang, Dr Templeton and Prof Graham recently had a paper published entitled "Evaluation of Anabaena flos-aquae as a precursor for trihalomethane and haloacetic acid formation" in Water Science and Technology: Water Supply 8(6): 653-662.
Dr Templeton recently had a paper published entitled "Pilot-scale assessment of the impacts of transient particulate water quality events on the UV disinfection of indigenous total coliform bacteria in drinking water treatment" in Journal of Water Supply: Research and Technology - Aqua 58(1): 11-20.
Prof. Cedo Maksimovic delivered an invited lecture: International Experience in Planning, Modelling and Mismanagement of Urban Pluvial Flooding at the Seminar on Flood Control held in Sao Paulo Brazil between 2-4th December 2008. The event was devoted to the 10th Anniversary of the completion of the Master Drainage Plan of the Upper Tiete river basin in which Prof Maksimovic took part. He used to opportunity to discuss with the representatives of the Government of Sao Paulo further possible co-operation in upgrading heir flood forecast system.
Preparations are taking place for the Workshop on Short Term Urban Pluvial flood Prediction as a Part of Integrated Urban Drainage Management that will be held at our Department on 9-10 February. The Workshop is a part of the ongoing FRMRC2 project. In addition to the FRMRC2 researchers from UK, invited are several international experts in the field.
The Editorial Office of the Water and Environment Journal, which is published on behalf of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), has indicated that a paper by Dr Stephen Smith and Dr Mike Rogers entitled 'Ecological impact of application of wastewater biosolids to agricultural soil', published in Volume 21 of the Journal in 2007 (pages 34-40), was the second most popular downloaded from the Journal in 2008 from a total of 37,000 downloads.
