Weizmann Symposium sheds light on renewable future
Join Weizmann Institute and UK scientists at the Light Energy for a Brighter Future symposium to explore the long term alternative to fossil fuels in a forum for the exchange of research into renewable and clean energies
The Weizmann UK 2009 Making Connections Symposium, Light Energy for a Brighter Future, is a two-day event involving scientists from the Weizmann Institute in Israel and UK scientists from a number of universities and institutions.
Chaired by Professor James Barber FRS from Imperial College and Professor David Cahen from the Weizmann Institute, the symposium will take place at Imperial's South Kensington Campus on Monday 6 July 2009, and the Royal Geographical Society on Tuesday 7 July 2009. Topics for discussion focus on research being carried out around long-term alternatives to fossil fuels, and include natural and artificial photosynthesis, biofuels and solar cells.
The two day symposium is intended for scientists and graduate students and the ticket price for those who wish to attend is £70 (£50 for students) and includes lunch and refreshments.

Public lecture
Energy, Environment and Security...can we have it all?

Imperial alumni might also be interested in the free-of-charge public lecture which concludes the symposium.
The lecture will take place at the Royal Geographical Society, at 19.00 on Tuesday 7 July, and will be delivered by Chief Chemist of BP Professor Vernon Gibson. Entitled Energy, Environment and Security...can we have it all?, the talk will be followed by a panel discussion and Q and A, and chaired by Sunday Times Environment and Science Editor Jonathan Leake. Guest panellists include: Professor James Barber, FRS, Imperial College London; Professor John Beddington, UK Government Chief Scientific Advisor; Professor David Cahen, Weizmann Institute of Science; Lord Hunt of Kings Heath, Minister of State for Sustainable Development and Energy Innovation
