Imperial College Club of Germany e.V. (ICCG) in World Cup Fever!

Allianz Arena in Munich

The Imperial College Club of Germany (ICCG e.V.) held its AGM in Munich, the opening venue for the World Cup 2006.

With only 20 days to go before the Start of the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany, the ICCG e.V. held its AGM in Munich, the opening venue of FIFA's prestigious event.
Mr Steve Plater (Her Majesty's Consul General in Munich) welcomed us to our venue in the Weisses Brauhaus and assured us that Germany is ready for the English fans, and may the best team (in particular England) win.

Lorenz Erdmann from the Berlin IZT warned us of the impact of pervasive computing, especially of RFID technology. And Alister Clarke from the European Patent Office explained that the art of Software Patents is a dark one with few possibilities of gaining copy protection.

We were also joined by Dr Frank Berkshire from the Mathematics Department Imperial College who enthralled us with the appliance of Mathematics in Sports giving us useful tips in the finer points of gambling and demonstrating to us that spinning a tennis racquet to win the toss can be legitimately manipulated if the least stable axis of rotation is taken!
With good food and beer provided by the Brauhaus, we experienced a nightlife excursion into Schwabing. On Sunday, the business tour of the Munich FIFA Arena gave us a taste of the glory to come. We wish all teams in the World Cup all success!
