Bike marathon highlights neglected tropical diseases
Over the next five years, Dr Stephen Fabes plans to cycle 50,000 miles across six continents, visiting more than 50 countries.
In a BBC article published today Dr Fabes says, "These diseases are as much a problem as the big three - TB, malaria and HIV/Aids. But they exist exclusively in poorer countries and are parasitic infections and they don't really grab the headlines as much." He goes on to say that NTDs are a problem which is not "particularly well highlighted and it is only very recently that there has been money put into treating neglected tropical diseases. Lots of these diseases could be eradicated given the right approach and finances."
