In March and April 2009, the Burundian NTD Control programme conducted its 1st follow-up survey in 14 provinces and 2nd follow-up survey in the 3 pilot provinces.

During these surveys, around 13,000 pupils in 30 schools over the countries had their height, weight and haemoglobin level measured, and were tested for schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted infections.

Most of these children had already been tested in previous years and the data collected on them will bescientists examining samples under microscope analysed over the years in order to draw trends in infection prevalence and intensity as well as in general health.
