What you think of the Careers Advisory Service matters!

Irena Jennings, Careers Adviser

See student feedback from our user survey in the Autumn 2009. We take the views of our users very seriously and reflect this in the services that we deliver.

During two weeks in the Autumn term 2009 we surveyed the registered users of the Careers Advisory Service to ask them what they thought about the services that we provide.

The careers information room, reception and careers library were all rated very highly by users

Careers Advisers were very highly rated - with 81% of respondents rating them 'very' or 'fairly helpful'

Of those visiting us for information, 94% found what they were looking for and 63% of those visiting us for information were looking for company information - a section which we are developing currently with interview feedback, employer visit reports and company reference files.

Some examples of how we have responded to your feedback on our services

What you said... Our response...
It would be nice to have a little more information given to the Humaities students, such as perhaps giving more information on art/culture/museum job opportunities  The Careers Advisory Service information room contains information on a wide range of occupations, inccluding humanities based jobs, this includes a careers library with several publications including; 'Getting a Top Job in the Arts & Media', 'So You Want to be a Science Writer?' and 'Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook 2009'.
Actually having signs above reception explaining services would be useful We have improved signing and labelling the the Careers Information Room, in particular highlighting the Information Desk, where you can drop in for Final 5 Minute Cv checks every day, between 13:00 and 15:00.
The 'How to Write a Winning CV' workshop was useful and I appreciated that we oould ask questions in order to tailor the session towards the type of positions we were interested in All Careers Advisory Service seminars are available from the Careers website homepage, we always tailor out seminars according to the needs of those attending - if you require further help or advice with cvs/applications/assessment centres, we have a range of appointments to suit your needs.
The confidentiality of the sessions with Careers Advisers is a good plus We have three interview rooms for appointments with professional Careers Advisers, you can arrange a telephone interview if that is more convenient, simply ask when booking or call us on 020 7594 8024 to find out more...
