Idear League 2010

The 10th IDEA league Sports Event took place in Delft, Holland from 12 to 14 May, with Paris Tech competing for the first time against Imperial, Delft, ETH Zurich and Aachen.

The IDEA League sports event is an annual inter-university competition, with Paris Tech competing for the first time against Imperial, Delft, ETH Zurich and Aachen.

The 57 strong squads from Imperial produced some good performances and finished in 4th position overall.

Idea League 2010On the first day, a survival challenge lay ahead of the students who were placed into mixed teams with students from other Univeristies. The whole excercise proved to be a real ice breaker as everyone got to know each other by helping their team members to get around the course.

Some people enjoyed the challenge so much they actually went around twice - well done Imperial Womens Rugby! Unfortunatley the men's rugby lost their star player in this event as he sprained his ankle tripping over a rope and could not compete in the sports event.

Early on Wednesday evening the swimming competition took place, and despite not having their strongest squad, the Imperial swimmers finished in 4th place .

A cool and cloudy Thursday arrived, with high hopes for the Imperial teams all looking foward to their events. Rugby 7's kicked off early and no luck for Imperial Men, as one of the player dislocated his shoulder in the first match. The mens 7's team rallied magnificently with two team members down, and played a fantastic game all day to win their competition.

The ladies basketball team, recruited one swimmer in their team as some players couldn't make it due to exams just before the event. The girls battled well and despite losing against Paris, Delft and Zurich, they kept battling away to the very end and manage to defeat Aachen in their last game and finished in 4th place.

The final results were:

  1. Delft
  2. Aachen
  3. Zurich
  4. Imperial
  5. Paris

Next year's event takes place in Zurich from 9 - 11 March 2011.
