As design engineers, we create solutions to complex societal challenges. We empower innovators and decision-makers to harness the power of a rigorous and creative discipline that constructs better social and technical systems using new technologies as building blocks. By fusing the technical to the human, we’re helping to create a world that’s just, sustainable, and teeming with possibilities.

It is a highly creative discipline that draws on knowledge of manufacturing techniques, product development, technical design and rapid prototyping to bring new innovations to market, and to improve existing products and the processes used for making them.

Study with us

The Dyson School of Design Engineering offers one programme at undergraduate level (MEng), and five at postgraduate level (MA/MSc/MRes). We also invite applications for research leading to the PhD degree in any of our key focus areas.

Research

Our research tackles complex societal challenges by integrating engineering, behavioural, legal, and ethical insights with creative practices, fostering innovative solutions in products, industrial processes and sociotechnical systems.

Engineers have traditionally focussed on the design of “better things”. Climate change, sustainability, and the need for socially just transition to net zero, have made it clear to the world, that making “better things” is not the same as “making things better”. It is precisely this gap that we are seeking to narrow at the Dyson School of Design Engineering.
